MSNV’s 50th Anniversary
October 7, 2012!
Gray skies could not dampen the enthusiastic gathering of many MSNV alumni and parents at the 50th anniversary Fall Festival and Reunion on October 7 at Lake Accotink. MSNV welcomed over 400 guests, including current families and staff for an afternoon of music, games, crafts, and catching up with friends.
Guests enjoyed a harvest buffet picnic featuring country fair flavors like mini sweet potato biscuits with proscuitto as well as vivid vegetable cups sporting green broccoli and purple cauliflower in MSNV colors. While all the blue-ribbon mini desserts were devoured, additional leftovers were transported to a local homeless shelter at the conclusion of the event. Kofi Dennis graciously donated his time to drum for us and lead a traditional drumming circle.
Thank you to everyone who joined in the celebration especially our amazing volunteer team and event organizers: Tina Savage, MSNV parents Susan Thomas and Susan Colletti, and the 50th Anniversary Steering Committee.
Thanks to our hosts, attendees, staff and alumni friends who raised over $2,800 toward the $30,000 foundation challenge!
Back to nature at MSNV
For MSNV students at our Valleybrook campus, going back to school means going back to nature, thanks to a new innovative outdoor playscape, one of the first of its kind in the DC metropolitan area. Designed by Early Space of Arlington, the playground features hundreds of native plants, a rain garden, a stream with a real working hand pump, and more. For more information or a tour, contact Ari Autor ().

Boy Scout builds new composter for MSNV
MSNV has a new three stage composter thanks to MSNV alumnus Matthew Mitchell. A Boy Scout, Matthew has been working hard to earn his Eagle Scout rank. Inspired by his experiences at MSNV where he was a student from 1999-2003, he decided to build a three stage composter to help continue the tradition of conservation he learned as a lower elementary student. Matthew planned the design, sought donations, and sought volunteers to assist with construction. After months of work, he completed the project this summer. Thank you to Matthew and his team for supporting our outdoor curriculum.
