MSNV ALUMNI
MSNV IN BLOOM AT THE 2010 AUCTION
At MSNV in Bloom, over 100 MSNV parents, staff and alumni enjoyed a beautiful evening on March 6th at the Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department Hall.. During the silent auction, some of the hottest items of the evening were a gardening consultation package from Campbell and Ferrara (an alumni family owned business), as well as a live giving tree festooned with gift cards of all kinds donated by the families of Mrs. Portch and Mrs. Bishop’s class. After a cocktail supper featuring light Asian fare created by Black Tie Catering and MSNV parent John Um’s Osaka restaurant, everyone took their seats for the main event, the live auction guided by Paul Quinn of Quinn’s Auction Galleries of Falls Church. Another highlight of auction week was the online auction which drew in even more families. MSNV in Bloom auction week net sales exceeded $20,000. Aimee Gabel chaired MSNV in Bloom, with help from Scott Friedman leading the online auction. Thank you to all alumni and friends of the school who helped to make MSNV in Bloom a memorable benefit for our school.

Remembering Art Mitchell
With great sadness, we announce the loss of a dear friend, longtime MSNV supporter, alumni parent, and former husband of Director, Betsy Mitchell. Art Mitchell died Tuesday April 20, 2010 after a battle with cancer.
Those who knew Art will remember him as a quiet giant in the theatre arts industry as well as a great partner on many MSNV theatrical endeavors. From early days of MSNV variety shows and theatre camps to the more recent productions including Upper Elementary’s presentation of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, and the March 2010 International Day performance at Poe Middle School, Art never hesitated to contribute his time and expertise to a whole generation of MSNV students. Through love of his craft and his wonderful spirit, he helped MSNV gatherings to shine effortlessly.
We thank Art for the many lessons he shared with all of us through the years. He will be sorely missed by our community. The Mitchell family has requested that friends wishing to remember Art may make a gift to the MSNV Financial Aid Fund in his memory.
Read about school growth
MSNV received unanimous approval from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on March 30, 2009 to amend our Special Exception at our Hillbrook campus. This important decision enabled MSNV to fulfill its Vision to add a complete upper elementary program while also increasing our overall potential future enrollment and building footprint.
With the launch of our 9-12 upper elementary class during the 2009-10 school year, the Hillbrook campus now provides Montessori programs to ages 2-12. Once our second Valleybrook campus opens, MSNV will be able to offer an additional preprimary and three primary classes at that location. MSNV made many interior changes to Hillbrook during summer 2009, including the construction of an additional classroom for upper elementary, a full renovation of the hall bathroom, redesign of the conference and workroom areas, as well as refurbishing of the main hallway. In Valleybrook campus news, progress continues on the building renovation under the guidance of our owner’s representative, Realco Professional Management Services with our architecture and engineering team, led by Ritter Architects and contractor, CM Sparks. We look forward to completing work on our second campus in October 2010 with official opening after our final permits and inspections are complete. In addition, we are working with Natural Playgrounds Company to create an innovative play area for the Valleybrook campus.
